TATA Steel Mines support iron ore mining and production in Quebec and Labrador.
The Tata Steel Minerals Canada (TSMC) Direct Shipping Ore (DSO) Project, located near Schefferville on the border of Quebec and Labrador, is a significant iron ore operation producing approximately 4.2 million tonnes of high-grade ore annually. A joint venture between Tata Steel Ltd. and New Millennium Iron Corp., the project focuses on mining, crushing, washing, and drying iron ore, which is transported via rail to the Port of Sept-les for global export, primarily to Tata Steels facilities. Supported by an investment from the Quebec government, the project emphasizes responsible mining practices, environmental stewardship, and community collaboration, including partnerships with Indigenous groups to ensure sustainable development and local economic benefits.
