Lac Des Iles Mine is a leading palladium producer located northwest of Thunder Bay.

Located approximately 85 kilometers northwest of Thunder Bay, Ontario, the Lac des Iles Mine is a significant palladium-producing operation. Initially developed by North American Palladium, the mine was acquired by Impala Platinum Holdings Limited in December 2019, leading to the formation of Impala Canada. The mine features both open-pit and underground operations, with the underground segment utilizing the sublevel shrinkage (SLS) mining method to enhance ore recovery and operational efficiency. In addition to palladium, the mine produces by-products such as platinum, gold, nickel, and copper. Ongoing exploration efforts aim to extend the mine's life beyond 2027 by identifying new mineral resources within the property.
