Responsibilities

The Welder is responsible for performing welding and fabrication tasks to maintain and repair mobile mining equipment, ensuring safety and operational efficiency.

  • Perform structural welding repairs on haul trucks, excavators, dozers, and drilling rigs.
  • Fabricate and install custom metal components for modifications and reinforcements.
  • Inspect equipment for cracks, wear, and structural deficiencies.
  • Use welding techniques including SMAW, GMAW, FCAW, GTAW, and oxy-acetylene cutting.
  • Repair high-wear components like buckets, blades, truck boxes, and undercarriage parts.
  • Ensure welding meets Canadian Welding Bureau (CWB) standards and OEM specs.
  • Perform Ground Engaging Tool (GET) replacements.
  • Execute field welding complying with safety regulations and quality standards.
  • Adhere to lockout/tagout procedures and maintain a safe work environment.
  • Report safety concerns and maintain PPE usage.
  • Maintain accurate welding task records and support maintenance team collaboration.
  • Mentor team members and foster a positive work environment.

Requirements

Applicants should have technical welding qualifications and extensive experience with mobile mining equipment.

  • Trades certificate or equivalent provincial certification (CWB preferred).
  • Equivalent technical experience considered.
  • 5+ years welding experience in mining, construction, or heavy industry.
  • Experience with mobile mining equipment such as haul trucks, loaders, drills, and excavators.
  • Proficiency reading blueprints, schematics, and welding symbols.
  • Experience with high-pressure welding and structural fabrication.
  • Ability to weld in multiple positions.
  • Familiarity with working at heights and in confined spaces.
  • Valid Class 5 driver's license and ability to work in remote mining environments.
  • Ability to lift at least 50 lbs and perform physically demanding tasks.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

Côté Gold Mine

Côté Gold Mine is a state-of-the-art open-pit gold mining operation located near Gogama in northeastern Ontario, Canada. Jointly owned by IAMGOLD Corporation (60.3%) and Sumitomo Metal Mining Co., Ltd. (39.7%), the mine achieved its first gold pour and commenced commercial production in 2024 . With an anticipated mine life of approximately 18 years, Côté Gold is poised to become one of Canada's largest gold producers. The mine boasts proven and probable reserves of 234.6 million tonnes grading 1.01 g/t gold, containing 7.6 million ounces of gold. Including the adjacent Gosselin deposit, the combined measured and indicated resources total 16.5 million ounces, with an additional 4.2 million ounces in inferred resources. Côté Gold is notable for its adoption of advanced technologies, including autonomous haul trucks and drills, enhancing operational efficiency and safety .
