IAMGOLD operates the Côté Gold Mine near Gogama, Ontario, developed in partnership with the Mattagami First Nation, Flying Post First Nation, and Métis Nation of Ontario Region 3. The Safety Coordinator supports the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of health and safety programs site-wide. This role works collaboratively with all departments to minimize risks, ensure compliance, conduct inspections and investigations, and promote a proactive safety culture for employees, contractors, visitors, and the community. Responsibilities
The Safety Coordinator assists with health and safety program development, implementation, compliance, and continuous improvement to ensure a safe work environment.
- Develop, review, and support health and safety policies, rules, and procedures.
- Implement safety management tools such as Job Hazard Analysis, Job Task Observation, and incident investigations.
- Conduct surveillance audits and engage with employees, contractors, and visitors.
- Facilitate incident and accident investigations and risk assessments.
- Develop and promote new safety training programs.
- Maintain and report health and safety data.
- Conduct daily field inspections and safety audits.
- Collaborate with other departments to integrate safety into operations.
- Assist with emergency response preparedness.
- Seek opportunities for operational safety improvements and problem-solving.
- Coach and provide direction to stakeholders and mentor new team members.
- Ensure contractor compliance with safety standards through training, inspections, and monitoring.
- Review contractor emergency response plans and safety programs.
- Promote a strong safety culture and proactive behaviors.
- Track and report contractor safety performance and incident data.
Requirements
Applicants should have education and experience relevant to health and safety in mining or industrial environments.
- Post-secondary certificate or diploma in health and safety, hygiene, or mining-related field preferred.
- Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) designation is an asset.
- Train the Trainer and First Aid certifications considered assets.
- Relevant experience in mining or gold processing plants.
- Familiarity with Ontario Mining Health and Safety standards is preferred.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
- High computer literacy in MS Windows and Office applications.
- Experience with Health & Safety software systems.
- Autonomous mining experience is an asset.

Côté Gold Mine
Côté Gold Mine is a state-of-the-art open-pit gold mining operation located near Gogama in northeastern Ontario, Canada. Jointly owned by IAMGOLD Corporation (60.3%) and Sumitomo Metal Mining Co., Ltd. (39.7%), the mine achieved its first gold pour and commenced commercial production in 2024 . The mine boasts proven and probable reserves of 234.6 million tonnes grading 1.01 g/t gold, containing 7.6 million ounces of gold.
