Thyssen Mining's Raiseboring Division is seeking a qualified Raisebore Helper for projects based in Quebec and additional locations. This full-time role involves the safe operation and maintenance of raiseboring drills to create vertical and inclined shafts in underground mining and civil engineering. The position requires a bilingual candidate with experience in large diameter reaming, hydraulics knowledge, rigging certification, and various safety trainings including FMTM and blasting tickets. The Raisebore Helper is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of raiseboring drills, maintenance, and collaboration with project teams.
- Operate raiseboring drills for vertical and inclined shaft creation.
- Monitor drilling parameters and adjust for optimal performance.
- Conduct pilot hole drilling and ensure reaming accuracy.
- Follow safety protocols and perform pre-operational safety checks.
- Implement proper ground control measures.
- Perform routine maintenance and minor equipment repairs.
- Identify and report mechanical faults.
- Coordinate with engineers, surveyors, and supervisors to meet project goals.
- Maintain detailed logs of drilling activities and progress.
Requirements
Applicants must meet strict qualifications and safety training requirements for effective raiseboring operations.
- Minimum 3 years operating experience with medium capacity drills.
- Experience with large diameter reaming (3 meters).
- Strong mechanical aptitude and hydraulics knowledge.
- Ability to read layouts, charts, prints, and schematics.
- Possess rigging certificate or rigging knowledge.
- Bilingual (English/French).
- Completed FMTM training.
- Valid Quebec Blasting ticket.
- Willingness to travel, work rotational shifts including days and nights.

Whabouchi Mine
The Whabouchi Mine, located near Nemiscau in the Eeyou Istchee James Bay region of northern Québec, is one of the richest high-purity lithium spodumene deposits in North America. Owned and operated by Nemaska Lithium, the mine forms a key part of a vertically integrated operation, with raw spodumene from the site destined for conversion into battery-grade lithium hydroxide at the company’s processing facility in Bécancour, Québec. As of 2025, the Whabouchi site is in the construction phase, with full production planned to coincide with the completion of the Bécancour plant. The project has secured all major environmental and regulatory approvals, including those under the James Bay and Northern Québec Agreement and federal environmental legislation.
