Nemaska Lithium is hiring a Heavy Equipment Operator for its Whabouchi Mine in Nemiscau, Baie-James, QC. This fly-in/fly-out role operates on a 14/14 work rotation with 12-hour shifts. Camp accommodations and flights are provided. The position involves operating a range of heavy machinery including loaders, graders, bulldozers, and buses, while performing safety checks and assisting in preventive maintenance. Responsibilities

As a Heavy Equipment Operator, your main responsibility is to support mining operations through safe and effective machinery operation and maintenance.

  • Operate heavy equipment safely across the mine site.
  • Transport materials including soil, gravel, and snow.
  • Perform preventive maintenance and troubleshooting.
  • Conduct daily checks: oil, pressure, fluids, tires, etc.
  • Clean, lubricate, and refuel equipment regularly.
  • Report equipment issues to supervisors as needed.
  • Support mechanics during repairs or troubleshooting.
  • Comply with environmental and safety standards.
  • Follow all on-site traffic and PPE safety protocols.
  • Maximize efficiency in fuel use and equipment handling.

Requirements

The ideal candidate brings extensive experience in heavy equipment operation along with necessary certifications and safety awareness.

  • DEP in heavy equipment or construction machinery operation.
  • Minimum 10 years of relevant experience.
  • Class 1 and Class 5 driver's licenses.
  • Ability to operate buses and multiple mining vehicles.
  • Comfort with 12-hour shifts on a 14/14 FIFO schedule.
  • Strong adaptability, responsibility, and safety mindset.
  • Experience with bulldozers, graders, excavators is an asset.

Whabouchi Mine

The Whabouchi Mine, located near Nemiscau in the Eeyou Istchee James Bay region of northern Québec, is one of the richest high-purity lithium spodumene deposits in North America. Owned and operated by Nemaska Lithium, the mine forms a key part of a vertically integrated operation, with raw spodumene from the site destined for conversion into battery-grade lithium hydroxide at the company’s processing facility in Bécancour, Québec. As of 2025, the Whabouchi site is in the construction phase, with full production planned to coincide with the completion of the Bécancour plant. The project has secured all major environmental and regulatory approvals, including those under the James Bay and Northern Québec Agreement and federal environmental legislation.
