Heavy Equipment Operator - North Warning System - 6 Weeks On / 6 Weeks Off - FIFO

Nasittuq Corporation is hiring certified Heavy Equipment Operators for permanent rotational fly-in/fly-out positions supporting the North Warning System (NWS) at the Dewar Lakes radar site in Nunavut. Working a 6 weeks on / 6 weeks off schedule with 48-hour workweeks and overtime paid at 1.5x, this role focuses on maintaining roads, runways, grounds, and gravel surfaces to ensure safe access and route passage in extreme Arctic weather, with a strong emphasis on snow clearing and safe heavy equipment operation. Nasittuq covers all travel costs and provides paid travel days (up to 2 days), along with camp-style living that includes accommodations with meals, Wi-Fi, TV, laundry facilities, and recreation. Responsibilities

The Heavy Equipment Operator supports North Warning System site operations at Dewar Lakes by operating heavy equipment for road, runway, and grounds maintenance, supporting logistics, and assisting with equipment and facilities upkeep in extreme Arctic conditions.

  • Operate heavy equipment safely to maintain roads, runways, and site grounds in extreme weather conditions.
  • Maintain gravel surfaces and access routes to ensure safe route passage and site mobility.
  • Assist with Mobile Support Equipment (MSE) maintenance and repairs, including upkeep of equipment storage buildings.
  • Load and unload helicopters and fixed-wing aircraft to support logistics and transport activities.
  • Perform shovelling and snow/grounds clearing tasks as required for safe site operations.
  • Clean vehicles, perform fuel dips and fuel transfers, and support safe fuel handling procedures.
  • Assist with sealift material delivery and related site logistics activities.
  • Support Facilities Maintenance Technicians with preventative maintenance inspections as directed.
  • Follow all safety policies, participate in required training, and comply with cold-weather and remote-site procedures.
  • Report hazards or incidents promptly in accordance with site requirements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support radar site operations.

Requirements

Candidates must be certified heavy equipment operators with air brake credentials and strong snow-clearing capability, able to work safely on remote Arctic radar sites while meeting security and airport authority requirements.

  • Licensed Heavy Equipment Operator with Air Brake certification.
  • Extensive equipment operating experience, including front-end loaders, dozers, graders, excavators, haul trucks, snowblowers, skid steer, and forklift.
  • Experience or training in driving vehicles with attached trailers.
  • Valid Class G driver’s license.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Reliability Security Clearance.
  • Physically fit for Arctic terrain and remote work conditions.
  • Completion of a Safe Backing course (required).
  • Authorization required for operators working on airport ramps or runways by the appropriate Airport Authority.
  • Strong work ethic, problem-solving ability, and effective teamwork skills.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills for remote site collaboration.
