Agnico Eagle Mines is hiring a Health and Safety Counselor for its Meliadine operation near Rankin Inlet, Nunavut. This full-time salaried position operates on a 14/14 fly-in/fly-out schedule and includes camp accommodations. Reporting to the Health & Safety Supervisor, the role involves developing and implementing safety management tools, supporting risk management and safety program initiatives, conducting audits, facilitating cross-departmental training, and optimizing document control systems. This position plays a key role in maintaining a safe and compliant mining operation.

Responsibilities

The Health & Safety Counselor will support safety initiatives and continuous improvement across the Meliadine Mine site.

  • Develop and implement H&S management tools (JHA, JTO, incident forms, ICAM investigations).
  • Assist in creating and enhancing site-specific Health & Safety programs.
  • Facilitate cross-departmental training to streamline risk management practices.
  • Support internal audits and TSM (Towards Sustainable Mining) compliance efforts.
  • Optimize usage of H&S software and improve document control systems.
  • Conduct regular workplace audits and participate in safety meetings.
  • Perform other safety-related duties as assigned.

Requirements

Candidates must have health and safety expertise and strong communication skills.

  • Bachelor's degree in Industrial Relations, Sciences, or a related H&S field.
  • CRSP designation and H&S certification are assets.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in health and safety roles.
  • Experience in surface and underground mining is an asset.
  • Familiarity with ICAM investigations and Bowtie risk analysis preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal and teamwork abilities.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Experience in multicultural environments is beneficial.
