Hemlo Gold and Williams Mine

The Hemlo gold mine, located near Lake Superior in north-western Ontario, Canada, has been a productive site for over 30 years, producing more than 21 million ounces of gold. This mine is part of Barrick Gold Corporation’s operations, a company with a wide range of gold and copper mining activities across the globe.

Barminco, a subsidiary of Perenti Group, is an underground mining contractor that has been awarded a contract to provide mining services for Barrick Gold’s Hemlo gold mine in Canada. This partnership, announced in March 2020, marks Barminco’s first significant contract in North America.

The Williams Mine, part of the Hemlo Operations managed by Barrick Gold Corporation, is situated in northwestern Ontario, Canada, approximately 350 kilometers east of Thunder Bay. It’s a blend of underground and open-pit mining operations. This site started its production journey in mid-1985, initially from the A Zone open-pit located at the east end of the property.

The open-pit operation is characterized as a typical truck-and-loader/hydraulic shovel operation, and the underground mining comprises two methods: longhole and Alimak.
