Woodfibre LNG is a liquefied natural gas export facility under construction on the northwestern shoreline of Howe Sound, roughly seven kilometres southwest of Squamish, British Columbia. The site is the former Woodfibre pulp mill, which operated for close to a century, and is accessible only by water — a constraint that shapes both construction and daily site access. The facility will produce approximately 2.1 million tonnes of LNG per year and includes a liquefaction train, a floating LNG storage and offloading unit, an air-cooling system, and marine docking for export vessels. Construction began with early works in late 2023 and passed the halfway mark in 2025, with large prefabricated modules arriving by ship and being moved into position on site. Peak construction employs roughly 1,500 people, with around 100 long-term operations roles once the facility is running. Work proceeds around the clock in rotating shifts, and crews are accommodated on a floating hotel moored at the site. Substantial completion is targeted for 2027.
