Highvale Mine
Explore job opportunities in mining, maintenance, and operations at Highvale Mine, one of Alberta's leading coal mining sites.

Highvale Mine supplies thermal coal for power generation in Alberta.
The Highvale Mine, located near Wabamun Lake in Alberta, was Canada's largest surface coal mine, covering approximately 12,620 hectares. Operational since 1970, it supplied low-sulphur thermal coal to TransAlta's Sundance and Keephills power plants. In December 2021, TransAlta ceased coal mining operations at Highvale as part of its transition to natural gas-fired electricity generation. Following the cessation of mining activities, the site entered a reclamation phase in January 2022, with plans to fully restore the area by 2046.
