De Beers Group is hiring a Welder Artisan, Lead Hand for the Mobile Maintenance team at the Gahcho Ku� Mine in the Northwest Territories on a 14/14 fly-in/fly-out schedule. Working in the Truck Shop, the role supports preventative maintenance and major repairs on mobile, auxiliary, and stationary mining equipment in an open-pit environment. The site offers camp accommodations with private rooms, full-service dining, Wi-Fi, gymnasium, squash courts, and modern fitness facilities. Responsibilities

The Welder Artisan, Lead Hand provides front-line leadership for welding and fabrication, ensuring safe, reliable maintenance execution across the mobile fleet.

  • Demonstrate and enforce safety standards, procedures, and systems; set expectations around maintenance schedules.
  • Provide direction, job assignments, training, and performance feedback to welding technicians.
  • Backfill the Execution Supervisor as required to maintain operational continuity and sound decision-making.
  • Make informed repair-strategy decisions to optimize equipment reliability and availability.
  • Participate in resource planning and workforce development to ensure skill coverage across shifts.
  • Lead by example through hands-on site fabrication and welding activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support safe, efficient mine maintenance operations.

Requirements

Candidates bring open-pit mining experience, technical welding expertise, and proven safety leadership suitable for remote FIFO operations.

  • Minimum 5 years' experience in open-pit mining.
  • ~2+ years of related Lead Hand / front-line leadership experience.
  • Strong knowledge of welding techniques, materials, and equipment; practical fabrication capability.
  • Familiarity with Komatsu welding and fabrication procedures.
  • Ability to read/interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and work scopes.
  • General knowledge of maintenance functions to support the Maintenance Supervisor.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills; commitment to HSE standards.
  • Experience working at a remote mine site and in a cross-cultural environment.
  • Basic computer skills preferred.
