Gahcho Kué Diamond Mine is one of Canada’s largest and richest diamond mines, located in the Northwest Territories approximately 280 km northeast of Yellowknife. Jointly owned by De Beers Canada (51%) and Mountain Province Diamonds (49%), the mine began commercial production in 2016 and is a vital contributor to Canada’s northern economy and global diamond supply. Operating as an open-pit kimberlite mine, Gahcho Kué produces around 4.5 million carats of rough diamonds annually, with total projected output exceeding 50 million carats by the end of its expected life in 2031. The mine processes roughly 3 million tonnes of ore per year, using cutting-edge sorting and recovery technologies. Gahcho Kué is a fly-in/fly-out (FIFO) operation, employing over 500 workers and providing stable, long-term careers in mining operations, maintenance, environmental monitoring, and logistics.
