De Beers Group, a global leader in the diamond industry, is seeking a Welder Artisan for the Gahcho Kué Mine in the Northwest Territories, Canada. Reporting to the Plant Maintenance Supervisor, the Welder Artisan is responsible for welding, fabrication, and repair of stationary and mechanical equipment to ensure safe and reliable mine operations. This permanent role offers a 1:1 FIFO rotation with flights from Yellowknife or Calgary. De Beers is committed to safety, sustainability, and fostering an inclusive, diverse work environment.

Responsibilities

The Welder Artisan performs welding and fabrication for mining equipment and infrastructure.

  • Perform preventive maintenance and repairs on tanks, piping, conveyors, and structural components.
  • Weld and fabricate components to industry standards for durability and safety.
  • Inspect and troubleshoot metal structures and equipment.
  • Support millwrights and mechanics in repair activities.
  • Operate cutting, grinding, and welding tools.
  • Maintain compliance with safety regulations and participate in safety audits.
  • Maintain detailed work documentation.

Requirements

Qualified and experienced welding professional for mining environment.

  • Journeyman Welding Certification (Interprovincial Red Seal preferred).
  • Minimum 5 years welding experience in mining or industrial settings.
  • Expertise in MIG, TIG, and stick welding, structural and pipe welding.
  • Familiarity with process plant mechanical systems including conveyors and crushers.
  • Ability to read blueprints and technical diagrams.
  • Experience with condition monitoring systems.
  • Proficient with MS Office and CMMS (SAP).
  • Experience at remote mining sites and in cross-cultural environments preferred.
  • Strong commitment to Safety, Health, and Environmental standards.

Gahcho Kué Diamond Mine is one of Canada’s largest and richest diamond mines, located in the Northwest Territories approximately 280 km northeast of Yellowknife. Jointly owned by De Beers Canada (51%) and Mountain Province Diamonds (49%), the mine began commercial production in 2016 and is a vital contributor to Canada’s northern economy and global diamond supply. Operating as an open-pit kimberlite mine, Gahcho Kué produces around 4.5 million carats of rough diamonds annually, with total projected output exceeding 50 million carats by the end of its expected life in 2031. The mine processes roughly 3 million tonnes of ore per year, using cutting-edge sorting and recovery technologies. Gahcho Kué is a fly-in/fly-out (FIFO) operation, employing over 500 workers and providing stable, long-term careers in mining operations, maintenance, environmental monitoring, and logistics.
