Underground Mobile Maintenance Supervisor - Hemlo Gold Mine - 7x7 Rotation Day/Night

Barrick Gold Corporation is hiring an Underground Mobile Maintenance Supervisor for its Hemlo Operations located near Marathon, Ontario. The position operates on a 7/7 residential schedule and requires the successful candidate to live within commuting distance of the Williams Mine, with a local travel allowance provided. This leadership role is accountable for overseeing the maintenance of all underground mobile equipment including drills, scoop trams, haul trucks, bolters, and support vehicles. The supervisor will manage a team of tradespeople, coordinate with other departments, and ensure safe and efficient equipment performance. Responsibilities

The UG Mobile Maintenance Supervisor will lead the underground mobile maintenance team and ensure optimal fleet performance. Key duties include:

  • Supervise and support tradespeople in maintenance and repairs of underground mobile equipment.
  • Plan and prioritize preventative maintenance and repairs based on production needs.
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards.
  • Coordinate with planners and supply chain for parts and tools availability.
  • Monitor equipment performance and implement improvements.
  • Perform field inspections and quality checks on completed work.
  • Lead incident investigations and root cause analyses.
  • Run pre-shift/toolbox meetings to communicate work and safety updates.
  • Ensure accurate documentation of work orders and logs.
  • Coach team members and support training and performance development.
  • Collaborate with OEMs and contractors for complex repairs.
  • Report on KPIs, availability, and team productivity to management.

Requirements

Candidates must meet the following requirements to qualify:

  • Journeyperson certification in Heavy Duty Equipment Mechanics (Red Seal or equivalent).
  • Minimum 10 years of equipment maintenance experience; 3+ years in underground mining preferred.
  • Grade 12 diploma or equivalent.
  • Previous supervisory experience preferred.
  • Underground Common Core certification preferred.
  • Valid driver's license required.
  • Strong technical knowledge of underground mobile equipment.
  • Leadership and team-building skills with a focus on safety and accountability.
  • Proficiency with CMMS systems like SAP is an asset.
  • Physically fit and capable of working underground in varied conditions.
  • Must comply with PPE and site safety requirements.

Hemlo Gold Mine

The Hemlo Gold Mine sits about 35 kilometres east of Marathon in northwestern Ontario, along the Trans-Canada Highway north of Lake Superior. One of Canada's longest-running gold camps, Hemlo was discovered in 1981 and has produced gold from both underground and open-pit operations since 1985, yielding roughly 25 million ounces to date. The camp historically hosted three mines — Williams, David Bell, and Golden Giant — of which the Williams operation and its associated underground zones remain active today. The site is supported by established infrastructure, including a 10,000-tonne-per-day mill and a modern underground complex accessed by shaft and ramp, with a western open-pit expansion planned to begin in 2027. The property spans more than 45,000 hectares along the Hemlo greenstone belt and holds over a decade of gold reserves, with an active exploration program targeting further growth near existing infrastructure.
