Bouchier, an Indigenous-owned leading provider of integrated site services in the Athabasca Oil Sands region, is hiring a full-time Mine Shovel Maintenance Labourer & Operator at CNRL Horizon Pressure & Vac site in Fort McMurray, Alberta. The role operates on a 7/7 rotation with camp accommodations and flights available depending on role/site. Responsibilities

The Mine Shovel Maintenance Labourer & Operator is responsible for cleaning, maintaining, and operating equipment related to mining shovel maintenance.

  • Follow all safety standards, procedures, and practices
  • Hand clean mining shovels (car body, rev frame, boom, housing), including confined space crawling in grease and oil environments
  • Use air-actuated tools, hand tools, and cleaning supplies to prepare areas for inspection and repairs
  • Operate steam truck for steaming and pressure washing mining shovels and related equipment
  • Operate aerial work platforms, forklifts, telehandlers, skid steers, tractors, and light vehicles
  • Drive underground for work and supply deliveries
  • Monitor fluid levels of equipment and notify supervisors of issues
  • Ensure equipment is parked, staged, and plugged in when not in use
  • Maintain inventory of consumables, PPE, and supplies
  • Grease equipment as needed
  • Comply with work order systems, interpreting and completing assigned work
  • Perform caretaking duties including snow shoveling, sanding, and maintenance of work areas and buildings
  • Maintain hazard-free entrances, walkways, and travel paths
  • Clean warehouses and assist personnel and contractors as needed
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements

Applicants must meet safety, licensing, certification, and physical demands for this labor-intensive role.

  • Valid Class 5 Driver's License
  • Clean 5-year Driver Abstract obtained within 30 days of start
  • Common Safety Orientation (CSO) certificate
  • WHMIS 2015 certification
  • Ability to pass Drug and Alcohol and Fit for Duty tests
  • Clean shaven for testing and ongoing
  • Physical ability to lift 50 lbs or more
  • Willingness to work in fluctuating climates and environmental conditions
  • Safety conscious attitude
  • Ability to speak, read, and write fluent English
  • Legal eligibility to work in Canada
  • Assets: TDG Certification, Rigging Certification, OSSA Confined Space Entry and Monitor Certification, First Aid, H2S Alive Certification

Horizon Oil Sands Project

The Horizon Oil Sands Project, located approximately 70 kilometers north of Fort McMurray in Alberta, Canada, is a significant oil sands mining and upgrading operation owned and operated by Canadian Natural Resources Limited (CNRL). The project encompasses surface mining of bitumen, extraction, and on-site upgrading to produce high-quality synthetic crude oil (SCO). Since its inception, Horizon has undergone several expansions to enhance production capacity and operational efficiency. As of 2024, the mine produces approximately 250,000 barrels per day of SCO, with plans to increase capacity by an additional 195,000 barrels per day.
