Responsibilities
The Sheet Metal Journeyperson fabricates, installs, and repairs sheet metal components and HVAC systems, ensuring compliance with building codes and client specifications.
- Layout, measure, and mark sheet metal dimensions per drawings or templates
- Cut, drill, punch, bend, and shape sheet metal using hand and power tools
- Fasten metal components via bolts, screws, rivets, adhesives, solder, or welding
- Install and repair sheet metal products including HVAC ducts, roofing, gutters, and siding
- Metal cladding of insulated piping and equipment on industrial sites
- Manufacture and install flashing and coping for roofing
- Supply, install, service, and repair air handling equipment, furnaces, fans, and air terminal devices
- Operate fabricating machines and shaping metal over anvils or blocks
- Perform soldering and welding for joining parts
- Calculate air volumes and capacities for airflow determination
- Provide training, mentorship, and support for apprentices
- Other duties as assigned
Requirements
Applicants must be Alberta-certified sheet metal journeypersons with relevant experience and physical capabilities.
- Alberta-certified Sheet Metal Journeyperson certificate
- 3-5 years relevant sheet metal experience
- Oil industry experience preferred
- Valid Class 5 Driver's License with clean 5-year abstract
- Common Safety Orientation (CSO) certificate
- WHMIS 2015 certification
- Good eyesight and manual dexterity
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints
- Strong visualization and math skills
- Knowledge of building codes
- Ability to stand long periods, lift heavy items, and work in high/noisy environments
- Strong teamwork and client interaction skills
- Fluent English in reading, writing, and speaking

Horizon Oil Sands Project
The Horizon Oil Sands Project, located approximately 70 kilometers north of Fort McMurray in Alberta, Canada, is a significant oil sands mining and upgrading operation owned and operated by Canadian Natural Resources Limited (CNRL). The project encompasses surface mining of bitumen, extraction, and on-site upgrading to produce high-quality synthetic crude oil (SCO). Since its inception, Horizon has undergone several expansions to enhance production capacity and operational efficiency. As of 2024, the mine produces approximately 250,000 barrels per day of SCO, with plans to increase capacity by an additional 195,000 barrels per day. The project is a key contributor to Albertas energy sector and plays an important role in Canadas oil production.
