Responsibilities
The Dual Ticketed Journeyman Plumber/Gasfitter performs installation, maintenance, and repair of plumbing and gas systems, while supporting related trades in camp maintenance.
- Plan and execute plumbing renovations in dormitories
- Inspect plumbing systems regularly for issues and repairs
- Perform preventative maintenance
- Ensure compliance with building codes and regulations
- Install, replace, and configure piping systems per blueprints
- Cut, thread, join pipes ensuring proper fit
- Conduct pressure tests on piping
- Maintain water supply systems, hot water tanks, and valves
- Address water pressure, flow, and quality issues
- Install and maintain sewage and drainage systems
- Keep accurate work and issue records
- Respond to plumbing emergencies promptly
- Adhere to safety protocols
- Provide mentorship and training to apprentices
- Assist with electrical, carpentry, painting, and flooring tasks as needed
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
Applicants must have the appropriate dual tickets, certifications, and experience in industrial oilfield environments.
- Red Seal or Alberta certified Journeyman Plumber certificate
- Journeyman Gas Fitter Class A or B certificate
- Common Safety Orientation (CSO) certificate
- Valid Class 5 Driver's License with clean driver's abstract
- Minimum 3 years' experience in oilfield industrial environment
- Extensive gas fitting experience
- Ability to interpret blueprints and technical drawings
- Thorough knowledge of plumbing maintenance and repair
- Strong teamwork, troubleshooting, mathematical, scientific, mechanical, and logical reasoning skills
- Proficiency in threading techniques
- Fluent English speaking, reading, and writing
- Legal eligibility to work in Canada

The Horizon Oil Sands Project, located approximately 70 kilometers north of Fort McMurray in Alberta, Canada, is a significant oil sands mining and upgrading operation owned and operated by Canadian Natural Resources Limited (CNRL). The project encompasses surface mining of bitumen, extraction, and on-site upgrading to produce high-quality synthetic crude oil (SCO). Since its inception, Horizon has undergone several expansions to enhance production capacity and operational efficiency. As of 2024, the mine produces approximately 250,000 barrels per day of SCO, with plans to increase capacity by an additional 195,000 barrels per day.
