Responsibilities
The Carpenter Journeyperson performs a variety of carpentry and maintenance tasks to support camp facility projects.
- Interpret client requirements and blueprints to plan and execute carpentry work
- Perform framing, finish carpentry, drywall, flooring installation, concrete forming, and finishing tasks
- Repair and maintain doors, floors, windows, partitions, ceilings, and building exteriors
- Build wooden and steel structures, partitions, and office additions
- Operate woodworking machinery including planers, joiners, saws, sanders, and drill presses
- Perform patching, painting, and trim work
- Provide training, mentorship, and support for apprentices
- Assist with other duties and work scopes as assigned
Requirements
Applicants must demonstrate relevant carpentry skills, certifications, and physical capabilities.
- Skilled in commercial painting, mudding & taping, finish carpentry, flooring installation, concrete forming, or concrete finishing
- Valid Class 5 Driver's License
- Common Safety Orientation (CSO) certificate
- WHMIS 2015 certification
- High School Diploma preferred
- 3 years' relevant experience preferred (residential or commercial)
- Previous renovation experience considered an asset
- Ability to pass drug, alcohol, and physical demand assessments
- Ability to stand, crouch, and kneel for extended periods
- Manual dexterity and balance for scaffolding work
- Strong math, mechanical, and logical reasoning skills
- Effective teamwork and communication skills
- Fluent English in speaking, reading, and writing
- Legal eligibility to work in Canada

Horizon Oil Sands Project
The Horizon Oil Sands Project, located approximately 70 kilometers north of Fort McMurray in Alberta, Canada, is a significant oil sands mining and upgrading operation owned and operated by Canadian Natural Resources Limited (CNRL). The project encompasses surface mining of bitumen, extraction, and on-site upgrading to produce high-quality synthetic crude oil (SCO). Since its inception, Horizon has undergone several expansions to enhance production capacity and operational efficiency. As of 2024, the mine produces approximately 250,000 barrels per day of SCO, with plans to increase capacity by an additional 195,000 barrels per day. The project is a key contributor to Albertas energy sector and plays an important role in Canadas oil production.
