Responsibilities

The Heavy Equipment Technician is responsible for the maintenance, repair, and safe operation of a variety of heavy mining equipment including haul trucks, loaders, dozers, graders, drills, and shovels in an open-pit mining enviornment.

  • Perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on open-pit mining equipment including haul trucks, loaders, dozers, graders, drills, and shovels.
  • Inspect, diagnose, and test equipment to ensure proper performance to manufacturer specifications.
  • Fabricate alternative parts to safely replace OEM components when required.
  • Troubleshoot and repair hydraulic, electrical, pneumatic, and mechanical systems.
  • Maintain accurate service records, work orders, and parts usage in the CMMS system.
  • Collaborate with the maintenance team to minimize downtime and support continuous improvement initiatives.

Requirements

Candidates must possess strong technical expertise and experience in heavy equipment maintenance. Key requirements include:

  • Minimum 5 years of experience, including apprenticeship, preferably in remote and arctic conditions.
  • Interprovincial Red Seal Heavy Equipment Technician certification, or Nunavut Certificate of Qualifications.
  • Proven experience working with open-pit and auxiliary equipment.
  • Hands-on field experience with Caterpillar equipment required.
  • Experience with Sandvik DR650 drills considered a strong asset.

The Goose Gold Project is a high-grade gold mine development in Nunavut’s Back River District, currently under construction by B2Gold Corporation.
