Reporting to the Mobile Maintenance Supervisor, this full-time, 2-year contract (with potential for permanent conversion) role operates on a 14:14 FIFO rotation. The technician will perform preventative maintenance and major repairs on mobile, auxiliary, and stationary mining equipment, supporting safe and efficient mine operations while upholding De Beers' values. Responsibilities
The Heavy Equipment Technician maintains and repairs mobile and stationary mining equipment, ensuring operational reliability and safety.
- Conduct job risk assessments and safe work plans.
- Perform preventative maintenance and servicing of mobile equipment.
- Inspect equipment to detect faults and malfunctions.
- Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair mechanical issues.
- Rebuild components and liaise with manufacturers.
- Document and complete work orders promptly.
- Communicate with supervisors and coordinate work.
- Collaborate with planners and schedulers to develop work packages.
Requirements
Required qualifications and experience for effective performance.
- Valid Interprovincial Red Seal Journeyperson Heavy Duty Technician Certification.
- Minimum 12 months surface mining field experience repairing and maintaining heavy earthmoving equipment.
- Eligible to work in Canada.
- Experience with Komatsu equipment considered an asset.
- Strong hydraulic and electrical skills, ability to read schematics.
- Commitment to Safety, Health, and Environmental Standards.
- Experience with hydraulic shovels and SAP is an asset.
- Experience in remote mining and cross-cultural work environments.

Gahcho Kué Diamond Mine is one of Canada’s largest and richest diamond mines, located in the Northwest Territories approximately 280 km northeast of Yellowknife. Jointly owned by De Beers Canada (51%) and Mountain Province Diamonds (49%), the mine began commercial production in 2016 and is a vital contributor to Canada’s northern economy and global diamond supply. Operating as an open-pit kimberlite mine, Gahcho Kué produces around 4.5 million carats of rough diamonds annually, with total projected output exceeding 50 million carats by the end of its expected life in 2031.
