Heavy Equipment Operator - Keno Hill Silver Mine - FIFO Western Canada
Hecla Mining Company is hiring Heavy Equipment Operators for the Keno Hill Mine in the Keno Hill Silver District, Yukon Territory, a remote fly-in/fly-out mining camp supporting surface mining operations at one of the world’s highest-grade silver districts. This 14 days on / 14 days off rotational role reports to the Site Services Supervisor and focuses on operating a range of surface equipment to execute daily site plans while maintaining safe, environmentally compliant operations. Equipment in this role includes rock trucks, loaders, packers, water trucks, dump trucks, lime trucks, vac trucks, excavators, dozers, lowboy haulage, and graders. The position offers $33.52 to $46.13/hour, camp accommodations, meals while on site, arranged FIFO travel from approved Western Canada hubs, and a comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, vision, RRSP matching, health spending support, and education assistance.

Responsibilities
The Heavy Equipment Operator supports surface mining and site services at Keno Hill by operating a wide range of heavy equipment safely, following daily plans, and maintaining environmental and safety compliance in a remote Yukon mine setting.
- Operate a variety of surface equipment including rock truck, loader, packer, water truck, dump truck, lime truck, vac truck, excavator, dozer, lowboy haulage, and grader.
- Communicate with shift supervision to complete daily plans and assigned activities.
- Carry out work activities while remaining mindful of environmental impacts and compliance requirements.
- Follow all applicable regulations, codes, and corporate and site standard operating procedures.
- Promote and support a strong environmental culture through environmentally responsible work practices.
- Help foster a strong safety culture by promoting and modeling safe work practices.
- Report spills in accordance with spill reporting procedures.
- Identify, eliminate, and report hazards as soon as practical.
- Report incidents and accidents promptly and cooperate with investigations.
- Use and maintain required personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Assist management by supporting change initiatives and work process improvements.
- Ensure plant and equipment operate within safe working limits and that the correct equipment is used for each task.
- Participate in risk assessments, safety initiatives, required training, and good housekeeping practices.
- Complete other assigned duties as required.
Requirements
Candidates for this fly-in/fly-out heavy equipment operator role should have strong surface equipment experience, commercial driving credentials, and the ability to work safely in a remote mining environment with changing weather and site hazards.
- Valid Class 1A Driver’s License.
- 5 to 7 years of experience operating similar heavy equipment.
- Ability to operate required equipment in a safe and responsible manner.
- Ability to understand and follow instructions.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Willingness to work in a team environment.
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s License.
- Clean Driver’s Abstract.
- Ability to pass pre-employment testing including drug and alcohol, blood lead, and audiogram testing.
- Ability to work in outdoor conditions including snow, ice, and extreme temperatures.
- Ability to work safely around hazardous wildlife, moving mechanical parts, elevated work areas, airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, explosives, electrical risks, vibration, and loud noise.
