The Operator III supports safe, efficient open pit production at a hard rock mine by operating multiple equipment classes, maintaining haul routes, and supporting standardized operating practices.
- Operate heavy equipment including excavators (390 and 6015), dozers (D8/D9), M Series graders, and rigid-frame haul trucks.
- Complete routine equipment inspections, maintenance checks, and basic troubleshooting to support safe, reliable performance.
- Perform efficient and safe bench set-ups, highwall scaling, and loading of rigid-frame haul trucks.
- Carry out drill pattern preparation and cleanup to support blasting and production cycles.
- Manage waste rock dumps, ensuring correct grades, berm height, and safe dump practices.
- Maintain mine roads across site, supporting safe traffic flow and operational efficiency.
- Keep haul roads, loading areas, and access points clear of debris and unwanted materials in line with site standards.
- Assist with development and implementation of standard operating procedures (SOPs) for equipment operation.
- Maintain accurate records for equipment usage, maintenance activity, incidents, and operational issues.
- Participate in daily safety toolbox meetings and follow B2Gold Nunavut safety standards and compliance requirements.
Requirements
Candidates must have significant open pit operating experience in hard rock mining, with the ability to work safely on a rotational FIFO schedule in a remote Nunavut environment.
- 5+ years of experience operating heavy equipment in a hard rock open pit mine.
- High school diploma or GED (completed).
- Valid driver’s license (required).
- Ability to perform routine inspections, basic troubleshooting, and accurate documentation.
- Strong commitment to safe work practices, SOP compliance, and participation in safety meetings.
- Ability to work effectively in remote, northern conditions within a fly-in/fly-out rotation.
