Heavy Duty Mechanic - Hemlo Gold Mine - Camp Work - Two Week Rotations

Barminco Canada, a subsidiary of the Perenti Group, is hiring an experienced Underground Heavy-Duty Mechanic for its Hemlo Operations near Marathon, Ontario. This role involves servicing, maintaining, and repairing underground heavy-duty equipment, including CAT and Sandvik mobile mining machinery. The position follows a 14/14 rotation with day and night shifts. Camp accommodations, meals, and travel assistance are provided. Candidates must hold a valid provincial or inter-provincial Red Seal certification in heavy-duty mechanics.

Responsibilities

As an Underground Heavy-Duty Mechanic, responsibilities include maintaining and repairing underground mining equipment to ensure operational efficiency.

  • Work safely and efficiently while maintaining high housekeeping standards.
  • Perform scheduled preventative maintenance (PMs) and mechanical repairs.
  • Service and repair underground CAT and Sandvik mobile mining equipment.
  • Diagnose equipment issues and determine required parts and materials.
  • Ensure compliance with safety protocols and company policies.
  • Maintain accurate records of repairs and servicing.
  • Collaborate with team members to improve maintenance processes.

Requirements

Candidates must meet the following qualifications and experience requirements:

  • Minimum high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Ontario Provincial Trades License (421A Heavy Duty Technician, 310T Truck & Coach Technician, or 310S Automotive Service Technician) or Inter-Provincial Red Seal certification.
  • Minimum five years' experience working in an underground mining environment.
  • Commitment to workplace safety and ability to ensure the safety of others.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work in a cross-cultural environment.
  • Excellent communication and computer skills.
  • Willingness to share knowledge and learn new skills.

Hemlo Gold Mine

The Hemlo Gold Mine sits about 35 kilometres east of Marathon in northwestern Ontario, along the Trans-Canada Highway north of Lake Superior. One of Canada's longest-running gold camps, Hemlo was discovered in 1981 and has produced gold from both underground and open-pit operations since 1985, yielding roughly 25 million ounces to date. The camp historically hosted three mines — Williams, David Bell, and Golden Giant — of which the Williams operation and its associated underground zones remain active today. The site is supported by established infrastructure, including a 10,000-tonne-per-day mill and a modern underground complex accessed by shaft and ramp, with a western open-pit expansion planned to begin in 2027. The property spans more than 45,000 hectares along the Hemlo greenstone belt and holds over a decade of gold reserves, with an active exploration program targeting further growth near existing infrastructure.
