Responsibilities
The Drill Doctor is responsible for the maintenance and repair of drilling machinery mechanical and hydraulic systems to ensure safe and efficient operation underground.
- Assemble, install, test, troubleshoot, and repair mechanical equipment and hydraulic systems on drilling machines.
- Follow written and verbal instructions safely and efficiently.
- Perform diagnostic testing to identify and solve equipment issues.
- Adjust equipment and repair or replace defective parts.
- Test repaired equipment to meet manufacturer specifications.
- Comply with all Thyssen Mining and Owner safety regulations and procedures.
- Identify unsafe conditions in underground headings with high alertness.
- Train and mentor new employees and apprentices.
Requirements
Applicants must possess the qualifications and experience necessary to perform skilled mechanical maintenance in underground mining environments.
- Journeyman level qualification and Certificate.
- Post-secondary diploma in a maintenance-related field.
- Basic literacy including reading, writing, basic math, and blueprint reading.
- Ontario Hard Rock Underground Service Type Common Core or equivalent provincial certification.
- Minimum 3 years underground mechanical experience.
- Experience with jackleg and stopers, various pumps (Wilden, Versamatic, Swellex), accumulators, rotary actuators, drive motors, pneumatic valves, and flushing heads.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Welding experience is an asset.
