Responsibilities

The Drill Doctor is responsible for the maintenance and repair of drilling machinery mechanical and hydraulic systems to ensure safe and efficient operation underground.

  • Assemble, install, test, troubleshoot, and repair mechanical equipment and hydraulic systems on drilling machines.
  • Follow written and verbal instructions safely and efficiently.
  • Perform diagnostic testing to identify and solve equipment issues.
  • Adjust equipment and repair or replace defective parts.
  • Test repaired equipment to meet manufacturer specifications.
  • Comply with all Thyssen Mining and Owner safety regulations and procedures.
  • Identify unsafe conditions in underground headings with high alertness.
  • Train and mentor new employees and apprentices.

Requirements

Applicants must possess the qualifications and experience necessary to perform skilled mechanical maintenance in underground mining environments.

  • Journeyman level qualification and Certificate.
  • Post-secondary diploma in a maintenance-related field.
  • Basic literacy including reading, writing, basic math, and blueprint reading.
  • Ontario Hard Rock Underground Service Type Common Core or equivalent provincial certification.
  • Minimum 3 years underground mechanical experience.
  • Experience with jackleg and stopers, various pumps (Wilden, Versamatic, Swellex), accumulators, rotary actuators, drive motors, pneumatic valves, and flushing heads.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Welding experience is an asset.
