Charge-Up Operators are responsible for safe and efficient execution of blasting activities and support development operations underground.
- Execute sub-drift, breast, slash, and drift blasting with ANFO and various initiating systems.
- Operate and maintain blasting trucks and related equipment.
- Lead development headings and mentor junior crew members.
- Coordinate with Jumbo Operators, Ancillary personnel, and Supervisors.
- Maintain clean work areas and ensure roadways are unobstructed.
- Follow all safety protocols and report hazards.
- Adapt to rotational schedules and operational priorities.
- Work independently and accept feedback to improve performance.
- Share knowledge and support team learning and development.
Requirements
Candidates must have certified blasting credentials and several years of underground mining experience.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum 5 years underground mining experience.
- Minimum 3 years in a charge-up role.
- Ontario Hard Rock Mining Common Core with U0006 'Blasting' required (U0093 'Mobile Bulk Blasting' preferred).
- Working at Heights Certificate.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.

Hemlo Gold Mine
The Hemlo Gold Mine sits about 35 kilometres east of Marathon in northwestern Ontario, along the Trans-Canada Highway north of Lake Superior. One of Canada's longest-running gold camps, Hemlo was discovered in 1981 and has produced gold from both underground and open-pit operations since 1985, yielding roughly 25 million ounces to date. The camp historically hosted three mines — Williams, David Bell, and Golden Giant — of which the Williams operation and its associated underground zones remain active today. The site is supported by established infrastructure, including a 10,000-tonne-per-day mill and a modern underground complex accessed by shaft and ramp, with a western open-pit expansion planned to begin in 2027. The property spans more than 45,000 hectares along the Hemlo greenstone belt and holds over a decade of gold reserves, with an active exploration program targeting further growth near existing infrastructure.
