As a Utility Heavy Equipment Operator, your primary responsibility is to safely and efficiently operate various heavy equipment, including Excavators, Loaders, Dozers, and Graders, among others. In addition, you will maintain, clean, and secure all equipment as per legal regulations, company policies, and procedures. While working within the Common Services division, you may also perform road maintenance and occasionally undertake laborer duties.

  • Operate all assigned heavy equipment in a safe and effective manner.
  • Maintain a daily operator logbook, recording essential information.
  • Conduct pre-operational checks on equipment and perform greasing as necessary.
  • Ensure the presence of appropriate safety equipment on all machinery.
  • Keep equipment interiors clean and communicate any repair needs.
  • Foster positive relationships with customers and colleagues.
  • Participate in safety assessments and meetings.
  • Execute other duties as directed by the Site Superintendent.

Education and Experience Requirements include the following.

  • 2-5 years of experience operating heavy equipment.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver's License (Class 1 or 3 preferred).
  • Clean 5-year Driver Abstract (to be obtained within 30 days of employment).
  • One of the following safety orientations: CSTS09, OSSA Regional Orientation, OSSA BSO (Basic Safety Orientation before December 31, 2018), or CSO (Common Safety Orientation after January 1, 2019).
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds or more.
  • Safety-conscious mindset.
  • Willingness to work in variable climates and environmental conditions.
  • Comfortable working in proximity to water.
  • Ability to pass a Drug and Alcohol test and Fit for Duty test.
  • Fluency in English (speaking, reading, and writing).

  • WHMIS 2015 Certification.
  • Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) Certification.
  • Ground Disturbance Certification.
  • OSSA Confined Space Entry and Monitor Certification.
