Suncor Base Plant processes bitumen into synthetic crude oil in northern Alberta.

Located north of Fort McMurray, the Suncor Base Plant is a cornerstone of Suncor Energy's oil sands operations. The facility encompasses two mines - Millennium and North Steepbankand integrated upgrading facilities known as Upgrader 1 and Upgrader 2. These components work in unison to extract and process bitumen into synthetic crude oil. The Base Plant has a production capacity of 350,000 barrels per day, contributing significantly to Canada's oil output. Suncor is committed to environmental stewardship at this site, implementing land reclamation initiatives and reducing greenhouse gas emissions through technological advancements and operational efficiencies.
