Menihek Hydroelectric Generating Station camp providing essential workforce accommodations and services in Labrador.

Powering communities with sustainable hydroelectric energy while supporting infrastructure upgrades and workforce operations.

The Menihek Hydroelectric Generating Station, located in a remote area of Labrador near Schefferville, Quebec, has been a key power source since its construction in 1954. Originally built by the Iron Ore Company of Canada (IOC) to support mining operations, the facility continues to play a vital role in regional energy production. In 2024, marking its 70th anniversary, Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro expanded the on-site camp to accommodate up to 120 personnel, a significant increase from its original capacity of 30. The expansion includes a new kitchen and dining area, providing essential amenities for workers involved in the plant’s ongoing rehabilitation projects. These efforts aim to extend the life of the facility, ensuring reliable power generation for surrounding communities.
