The Elk Valley in southeastern British Columbia is home to several significant steelmaking coal mines, primarily operated by Teck Resources. These mines include Fording River, Greenhills, Line Creek, and Elkview, collectively producing a substantial portion of Canada's metallurgical coal. In 2023, Teck announced plans to sell its entire interest in its steelmaking coal business, Elk Valley Resources, to Glencore plc and Nippon Steel Corporation, pending federal approval.
