The lonore Gold Mine, owned by Newmont Corporation, is located in the Eeyou Istchee/James Bay region of Quebec. This underground operation began commercial production in 2015 and is among the largest gold mines in the province. In September 2024, Newmont announced plans to divest certain assets, including lonore, as part of a strategy to optimize its portfolio. The mine continues to be a significant gold producer, with ongoing exploration efforts to expand its resource base.
