Utilizing steam-assisted gravity drainage (SAGD) for bitumen extraction.

The Christina Lake project, operated by Cenovus Energy, is a significant oil sands development located approximately 150 kilometers southeast of Fort McMurray, Alberta. Utilizing Steam-Assisted Gravity Drainage (SAGD) technology, the project efficiently extracts bitumen from deep underground reservoirs. As of 2024, Christina Lake has achieved a nameplate production capacity of 260,000 barrels per day, making it one of the largest in-situ oil sands facilities in Canada. Cenovus continues to invest in optimization and expansion initiatives to enhance production efficiency and environmental performance at this site.
