Aluminum smelting and hydropower operation in Kitimat supporting global exports.
BC Works, operated by Rio Tinto in Kitimat, British Columbia, is a world-class aluminum production facility powered by the clean, renewable energy of the Kemano Powerhouse. Following a $6 billion modernization completed in 2016, the smelter doubled its production capacity while halving greenhouse gas emissions, making it one of the most efficient and sustainable in the world. Certified by the Aluminium Stewardship Initiative, BC Works adheres to high environmental, social, and governance standards. The operation contributes significantly to British Columbia's economy, actively engages with local communities, including the Haisla Nation, and continues to set benchmarks for responsible aluminum production.
