Worksite/Project

Ridley Island Energy Export Facility (REEF)

The Ridley Island Energy Export Facility (REEF) is a major new export terminal under development on Ridley Island near Prince Rupert, British Columbia. A 50/50 joint venture between AltaGas and Royal Vopak, REEF is designed to ship propane, butane, and other bulk liquids to international markets, primarily in Northeast Asia. The facility will feature dedicated storage tanks, rail infrastructure, and a deep-water marine jetty built to handle very large gas carriers. Located at Canada’s deepest natural port, REEF offers a 10-day shipping advantage to Asia compared to U.S. Gulf Coast terminals. The project has secured federal and provincial approvals and is proceeding through phased construction. Once complete, REEF will significantly expand Canada’s low-carbon energy export capacity and strengthen Prince Rupert’s role as a strategic trade and logistics hub on the West Coast.
