Reporting to the Superintendent, the Supervisor leads underground contractors and teams, managing safety, production, partnerships, and cost control. Responsibilities

The Underground General Supervisor leads underground development and production teams, ensuring safe, efficient operations aligned with strategic business goals.

  • Advocate and enforce health and safety policies; report and address risks and incidents.
  • Ensure compliance with New Gold's and OHSA safety standards.
  • Participate in daily pre-start safety meetings and follow SOPs.
  • Supervise internal teams and contractors, motivating for safety, production, and cost efficiency.
  • Communicate effectively, build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Adapt to evolving business needs, driving operational and productivity improvements.
  • Manage key systems such as INX and SAP; promote environmental, sustainability, and HR policies.
  • Drive cost-saving initiatives and participate in strategic mid-term mine planning.
  • Lead development and implementation of mine policies and procedures.
  • Support a value-based safety management system focusing on hazard identification, risk management, and employee engagement.
  • Address Joint Health and Safety concerns promptly and thoroughly.
  • Develop employees, implement succession plans, and foster a culture of accountability and respect.
  • Conduct performance assessments and collaborate with HR for employee engagement and well-being.

Requirements

The ideal candidate has extensive underground mining and supervisory experience combined with strong leadership and regulatory knowledge.

  • Minimum 3+ years supervisory experience at Shift Supervisor level or higher with progressive responsibilities.
  • 10-15 years underground mining experience, preferably progressive roles.
  • Proficient computer literacy in mining-related applications.
  • Safety certifications and other relevant training are assets.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Solid understanding of Mining Act, OHSA, and relevant mining legislation.
  • Ability to influence, inspire, and manage cross-functional teams.
