Tire Technician - Syncrude Aurora - With Loa - Two Week Rotations

North American Construction Group (NACG) is hiring an OTR Tire Technician for work at the Syncrude Aurora site in Fort McMurray, AB. This position follows a structured 14-day on, 14-day off schedule, working 12-hour day shifts. While camp accommodations are not provided, a $5/hour Living Out Allowance is available. Bus transportation is provided from Fort McMurray to the site. Responsibilities include assembling, installing, and repairing OTR tire/wheel assemblies, operating tire manipulators, and assisting experienced tire personnel until fully trained. Successful candidates will join the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 955.

Responsibilities

The OTR Tire Technician will be responsible for assembling, repairing, and installing OTR tire/wheel assemblies.

  • Assist experienced Tire Technicians until fully trained
  • Prepare and assemble OTR tires for installation and repair
  • Set up haul trucks and heavy equipment for tire work
  • Operate tire manipulators to assemble and install wheel/tire assemblies (or be willing to train)
  • Ensure compliance with all safety policies and procedures

Requirements

The ideal candidate will have experience with OTR tire handling and maintenance.

  • Tire Industry Association Certificate (TIA) or TIA training required
  • Previous experience assembling, disassembling, and installing OTR tire/wheel assemblies
  • Experience with tire manipulators (forklift or loader style) is an asset
  • Experience with tire truck (knuckle boom) manipulators is an asset
  • Class 3 Driver's License required (willing to train and reimburse if not currently held)
  • Valid Class 5 Driver's License with a recent Driver's Abstract
  • Valid CSO Certification (Energy Safety Canada)

The Syncrude Aurora Mine, located approximately 35 kilometers north of Fort McMurray, Alberta, is a significant component of Syncrude Canada's oil sands operations. The Aurora North Mine was the first stand-alone oil sands mine and processing plant, producing bitumen froth that is transported to the Mildred Lake processing plant. The mine has a bitumen production capacity of 225,000 bpd and is expected to be depleted by about 2040 at current mining rates. Syncrude is a joint venture operated by Suncor Energy, with partners including Imperial Oil, Sinopec, and Nexen/CNOOC.
