Responsibilities
The Tailings Dam Technician performs critical field and office duties supporting tailings dam safety and performance monitoring.
- Conduct regular field inspections and data collection (piezometers, settlement plates, slope inclinometers, tailings and water levels, GPS surveys).
- Input, validate, and assess instrumentation data; prepare reports for stakeholders.
- Manage instrumentation databases and maintain inventory, maintenance schedules, and audits.
- Repair piezometer dataloggers and ensure efficient monitoring.
- Review engineering reports and address deficiencies in consultation with Senior Engineer.
- Perform visual inspections of the Tailings Management Area per OMS schedules and escalate unusual conditions.
- Support tailings management system compliance and tracking.
- Assist in site investigations, drilling, and sampling programs.
- Ensure adherence to safety policies, complete hazard analyses, and promote a safety-first culture.
Requirements
Applicants should have a relevant technical diploma or equivalent experience with strong data, computer, and field skills.
- Mining, Geotechnical, or Civil Technology Diploma or equivalent experience.
- 1-3+ years industry experience in mining, civil earthworks, or industrial sites preferred; entry-level considered.
- Proficiency with MS Office, Access, Excel; familiarity with GTILT Software an asset.
- Experience with survey and GPS equipment/software considered an asset.
- Experience monitoring geotechnical instrumentation desirable.
- Valid Canadian driver's license required.
