Shovel Technician - Oil Sands Maintenance - With Loa - Two Week Rotations
NACG is hiring experienced Heavy Duty Mechanics/Shovel Technicians for its Mobile Support Crew, servicing multiple sites in Fort McMurray, including Suncor, Kearl, Syncrude, and Fort Hills. This role focuses on maintaining large mining equipment, specifically shovels, with competitive wages, transportation, and an additional hourly uplift for shovel crew work. No camp accommodations are provided, but a $15/hour Living Out Allowance is offered.

The Heavy Duty Mechanic/Shovel Tech will be responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining large mining equipment.
- Perform maintenance and repairs on CAT, Komatsu, and Hitachi equipment
- Work across multiple sites as part of the Shovel Crew
- Conduct preventative maintenance and servicing
- Evaluate and inspect equipment for faults and malfunctions
- Troubleshoot hydraulic, electrical, and mechanical systems
- Test repaired equipment for proper functionality
- Mobilize equipment for maintenance and repairs
- Develop maintenance schedules and work scopes
- Order repair parts, complete reports, and fill out work orders
- Train and mentor apprentices and junior mechanics
- Ensure compliance with NACG codes of practice and safety procedures
Requirements
The ideal candidate will have specialized experience in heavy equipment maintenance, particularly shovels.
- Minimum 2 years post-Journeyman experience specifically on large shovels
- Additional experience with Haul Trucks, Dozers, Graders, and Excavators (asset)
- Valid Alberta Journeyman (Journeyperson) Equipment Technician (Off-Road) Certificate or Red Seal Heavy Duty Equipment Mechanic/Technician (Off-Road)
- Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills
- Ability to work independently
- Commitment to continuous learning
- Basic knowledge of computer applications
- Leadership skills and professionalism
- Experience with Cat SIS (asset)
- Previous experience in a safety-sensitive work environment (asset)
- Valid Class 5 Driver's License
- Truck requirements: Current CVIP and Picker Inspection, oxygen/acetylene cabinets meeting OH&S standards, full tool complement for off-road equipment repairs, $5 million liability insurance
