Shovel Operator - Greenstone Gold Mines - Ontario - Rotational Basis

Greenstone Gold Mines LP, owned by Equinox Gold Corp, is hiring a Face Shovel Operator for the Greenstone Mine in Geraldton, Ontario. This open-pit gold mine, operational since May 2024, is projected to produce nearly 400,000 ounces of gold annually for an initial 14-year mine life. The Face Shovel Operator will be responsible for safely and efficiently operating a 600-ton face shovel, excavating materials, and loading haul trucks while ensuring compliance with safety regulations. Company transportation is available from multiple pick-up locations.

Responsibilities

The Face Shovel Operator is responsible for safely and efficiently operating a 600-ton face shovel at the Greenstone Mine. Responsibilities include:

  • Operating the 600-ton face shovel according to safety and operational standards.
  • Performing Field Level Risk Assessments.
  • Maintaining housekeeping and refilling fluids as required.
  • Conducting pre-operational checks and shift walk-around inspections.
  • Completing logbooks and daily reports on safety, production, and delays.
  • Using two-way radios and horn signals for communication and safety.
  • Troubleshooting and reporting equipment issues to dispatch.
  • Safely maneuvering the face shovel within the mine site.
  • Excavating overburden and blasted rock as per operating practices.
  • Loading 240-ton haul trucks efficiently and safely.
  • Monitoring gauges and indicators to ensure proper operation, reporting any discrepancies.

Requirements

Candidates should meet the following qualifications and skills:

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience operating face shovels at a mine site.
  • Double side loading experience is an asset.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Prior mine site experience is required.
  • Heavy Equipment Operator Training or relevant experience is required.
  • Ontario Surface Common Core Training is an asset.
  • Safety-conscious and self-motivated.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to read and follow work instructions accurately.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Willingness to perform repetitive tasks.
