The Journeyman Maintenance Technician ensures the reliable operation of camp systems through hands-on maintenance, repairs, and compliance with safety and technical standards.
- Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on camp infrastructure such as heating, water, electrical, and mechanical systems.
- Troubleshoot and repair gas, plumbing, and electrical issues in compliance with CSA and OHS standards.
- Install, service, and maintain commercial kitchen equipment and appliances (e.g., ovens, ranges, fryers, refrigeration units).
- Conduct gas system inspections, leak tests, and regulator checks for propane/natural gas systems.
- Maintain potable water, sewage, and drainage systems under Arctic conditions.
- Perform electrical work including lighting, power distribution, and generator maintenance.
- Complete maintenance records, inspections, and safety documentation.
- Participate in safety meetings, hazard assessments, and ensure adherence to PPE and company safety policies.
- Assist in cross-trade support, including HVAC, structural, and emergency system maintenance.
Requirements
Candidates should possess valid trade certifications, technical expertise, and adaptability for remote northern work.
- Valid Journeyperson certification in Gasfitting, Plumbing, or Electrical (Red Seal preferred).
- CFESA or provincial commercial appliance certification (gas, steam, electrical, or refrigeration) considered an asset.
- Minimum 2-3 years of licensed experience in commercial, industrial, or camp maintenance.
- Strong troubleshooting skills across multiple trades.
- Knowledge of safety procedures, lockout/tagout, WHMIS, and confined space standards.
- Ability to interpret technical manuals and schematics accurately.
- Valid driver's license and ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in Arctic environments.
- Respectful communication and ability to work in multicultural teams including Indigenous and Inuit staff.
