North American Construction Group (NACG) is seeking a Heavy Equipment Maintenance Superintendent for the Syncrude Aurora site in Fort McMurray, AB. This leadership role oversees maintenance operations, ensuring compliance with safety standards, optimizing equipment availability, and managing shop performance. The position follows a 9-day on, 5-day off rotation with a Living Out Allowance. The successful candidate will hold a Journeyperson Heavy Duty Mechanic certification and have supervisory experience in industrial construction or mining.

The Heavy Equipment Maintenance Superintendent will oversee maintenance operations, ensuring safety, efficiency, and compliance with industry standards.
- Review daily and weekly work plans, setting maintenance priorities
- Ensure compliance with the BC Mines Act and company safety policies
- Manage employee performance, morale, and training requirements
- Conduct shop and field inspections to uphold safety standards
- Optimize labor efficiency and minimize delays in equipment availability
- Oversee cost-effective equipment repairs and pursue warranty opportunities
- Work with the Planning and Logistics team on short- and long-term planning
- Collaborate with Human Resources for staffing and recruitment
- Develop and manage the shop budget with Divisional Finance
- Monitor machine health and ensure the effective use of the work order system
- Lead safety meetings, incident management, and action log stewardship
- Coordinate daily and weekly equipment planning requests
Requirements
The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in heavy equipment maintenance and leadership.
- Minimum 7 years of experience in equipment maintenance, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role
- Industrial construction and/or mining experience preferred
- Journeyperson Heavy Duty Mechanic certification required
- Post-secondary education (preferred) or equivalent experience
- AMSA (Alberta Mining Safety Association) certification
- BC Shift Boss Certificate
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work under pressure
- High regard for safety and compliance
- Excellent problem-solving and communication skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and JDE maintenance planning software
- Basic accounting knowledge

The Syncrude Aurora Mine, located approximately 35 kilometers north of Fort McMurray, Alberta, is a significant component of Syncrude Canada's oil sands operations. The Aurora North Mine was the first stand-alone oil sands mine and processing plant, producing bitumen froth that is transported to the Mildred Lake processing plant.
