The Mill Maintenance Electrician plays a vital role in maintaining and upgrading electrical systems across the mine site and camp facilities to ensure operational efficiency and safety. Key responsibilities include:
- Maintaining and upgrading electrical systems including control equipment, monitors, motors, VFDs, and more
- Interpreting drawings, blueprints, schematics, and electrical codes
- Installing and maintaining automated systems
- Consulting with specialists on complex electronic systems
- Responding to electrical breakdowns and emergencies
- Following preventative maintenance programs and inspections
- Maintaining detailed maintenance records and digital logs
- Locking out hazardous equipment and coordinating safety reviews
- Replacing circuit breakers, fuses, switches, lighting, and other electrical components
- Operating switch gear up to 13.8KV, including medium voltage terminations
- Rerouting power for safe work completion
- Providing electrical service to surface equipment and generator stations during outages
- Assisting maintenance of site electrical distribution and camp support facilities
- Recommending improvements to maximize maintenance efficiency and minimize downtime
- Supporting apprentices' skill development by delegating appropriate tasks
Requirements
The ideal Mill Maintenance Electrician will have strong technical expertise, practical mining maintenance experience, and leadership qualities. Required qualifications include:
- 2+ years related mining maintenance experience
- Advanced knowledge of electrical principles and techniques
- Red Seal Journeyperson Electrical certification
- Valid inter-provincial trade qualification certificate in a relevant field
