Red Chris Mine
The Red Chris Mine, situated in British Columbia's Golden Triangle, is a significant copper and gold mining operation. Established in 2015, it operates as an open-pit mine with ongoing exploration to assess underground block cave potential. Initially developed by Imperial Metals, the mine became a joint venture in 2019, with Newcrest Mining Limited acquiring a 70% stake and assuming operational control, while Imperial Metals retained a 30% interest. In 2023, Newcrest was acquired by Newmont Corporation, making Newmont the majority owner and operator of Red Chris. The mine's strategic location and substantial reserves position it as a key contributor to Canada's mining sector, with ongoing developments aimed at enhancing its production capabilities and extending its operational lifespan.
