ATCO Frontec is hiring a Heavy Equipment Operator to join its team in Eureka, NU. This role involves operating heavy machinery for construction, maintenance, and material handling work in a remote Arctic environment. The position follows an 8 weeks on, 8 weeks off rotation, requiring experience with a variety of heavy equipment such as bulldozers, excavators, loaders, and snow plows. The successful candidate will have a valid Heavy Equipment Operator certification and experience working in extreme weather conditions.

Responsibilities

The Heavy Equipment Operator is responsible for operating and maintaining heavy machinery in remote construction and maintenance operations.

  • Operate heavy equipment such as dump trucks, tractors, backhoes, bulldozers, excavators, loaders, and graders.
  • Perform excavation, material handling, and road maintenance tasks.
  • Operate snow blowers and plow trucks to clear snow from roads and parking lots.
  • Spread or compact road surface materials during road construction.
  • Load and unload cargo using heavy equipment.
  • Conduct pre-operational checks, clean, lubricate, and refill equipment as necessary.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

The ideal candidate will have experience in heavy equipment operation with strong mechanical and safety knowledge.

  • Valid Trade Certificate for Heavy Equipment Operator required.
  • Valid Class 3 Driver's License with a clean driver's abstract required.
  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience operating heavy equipment.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Comfortable working in remote and extreme weather conditions.
  • Availability to work rotational shifts, including extended hours if necessary.
  • Final candidates must pass a pre-employment alcohol & drug test, fit-to-work medical test, criminal record check, and Security Clearance Check.
