Heavy Duty Mechanic - Syncrude Aurora - With Loa - Two Week Rotations
North American Construction Group (NACG) is hiring experienced Heavy Duty Mechanics (Off-Road) for work at the Syncrude mining site in Fort McMurray, AB. This position follows a 14-day on, 14-day off schedule with both day and night shifts. Camp accommodations are not provided, but a $15/hour Living Out Allowance is available. Bus transportation is provided from Fort McMurray to the site. The role involves performing maintenance and repairs on CAT, Komatsu, and Hitachi equipment, troubleshooting hydraulic, electrical, and mechanical systems, and ensuring equipment meets manufacturer specifications. Successful candidates will be part of IUOE Local 955.

Responsibilities
The Heavy Duty Mechanic will perform maintenance and repairs on large mining equipment.
- Complete repairs on CAT, Komatsu, and Hitachi equipment of all sizes
- Work closely with maintenance and operations teams
- Conduct preventative maintenance and servicing of all equipment
- Evaluate equipment performance and inspect for faults and malfunctions
- Troubleshoot hydraulic, electrical, and mechanical systems
- Test repaired equipment to ensure proper performance
- Mobilize equipment for maintenance and repair
- Develop work scopes and schedules for equipment repairs
- Order required repair parts and complete work orders
- Mentor apprentices and mechanics
- Follow NACG safety procedures and best practices
Requirements
The ideal candidate will have experience in heavy equipment maintenance with a focus on large mining machinery.
- Minimum 2 years of experience post-Journeyperson certification
- Experience with haul trucks, dozers, graders, and excavators
- Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills
- Ability to work with minimal supervision
- Professional work behavior and commitment to continuous learning
- Basic computer application knowledge
- Demonstrated leadership skills in daily work interactions
- Valid Alberta Journeyperson Heavy Equipment Technician (Off-Road) Certificate or Interprovincial Red Seal Journeyperson Heavy Duty Equipment Mechanic/Technician (Off-Road)
- Experience with CAT SIS is an asset
- Previous experience in a safety-sensitive worksite is an asset
- Valid Class 5 Driver's License with a recent Driver's Abstract
- Valid CSO or BSO Certification (Energy Safety Canada)

The Syncrude Aurora Mine, located approximately 35 kilometers north of Fort McMurray, Alberta, is a significant component of Syncrude Canada's oil sands operations. The Aurora North Mine was the first stand-alone oil sands mine and processing plant, producing bitumen froth that is transported to the Mildred Lake processing plant. The mine has a bitumen production capacity of 225,000 bpd and is expected to be depleted by about 2040 at current mining rates.
