Heavy Duty Mechanic - Suncor Top Shop - With Loa - Two Week Rotations

NACG is hiring an experienced Heavy Duty Mechanic (Off-Road) for the Suncor Top Shop project in Fort McMurray, AB. This position offers a competitive wage, transportation from Fort McMurray, and significant overtime opportunities. Mechanics will work on large-scale CAT, Komatsu, and Hitachi equipment, performing repairs, diagnostics, and preventative maintenance. The role does not include camp accommodations but offers a $15/hour Living Out Allowance.

Responsibilities

The Heavy Duty Mechanic will be responsible for equipment maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs.

  • Complete repairs on CAT, Komatsu, and Hitachi equipment
  • Perform preventative maintenance and servicing
  • Evaluate equipment performance and inspect for faults
  • Troubleshoot hydraulic, electrical, and mechanical systems
  • Test repaired equipment to ensure it meets manufacturer specifications
  • Develop work scopes and maintenance schedules
  • Order repair parts and complete reports
  • Mentor apprentices and junior mechanics
  • Ensure compliance with NACG codes of practice and safety procedures

Requirements

The ideal candidate will have strong mechanical skills and experience working with off-road heavy equipment.

  • Minimum 2 years post-Journeyman experience on large Haul Trucks, Dozers, Graders, and Excavators
  • Valid Alberta Journeyman (Journeyperson) Equipment Technician (Off-Road) Certificate or Red Seal Heavy Duty Equipment Mechanic/Technician (Off-Road)
  • Excellent diagnostic and troubleshooting skills
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Basic computer application knowledge
  • Leadership skills and commitment to continuous learning
  • Experience with Cat SIS (asset)
  • Previous experience in a safety-sensitive worksite (asset)
  • Proficiency in English (verbal and written)
  • Valid Class 5 Driver's License
