Heavy Duty Mechanic - Fort Hills Oil Sands - Fly In/Out - Two Week Rotations

NACG is hiring experienced Heavy Duty Mechanic Subcontractors to join the team at Fort Hills in Fort McMurray, AB. This role involves servicing and repairing heavy equipment such as haul trucks, dozers, graders, and excavators. The position offers a 14-day on, 14-day off rotation with 12-hour shifts. Camp accommodations and flights from Edmonton or Calgary are provided. This is a unionized role under IUOE Local 955. Contractors must meet specific truck and tool requirements, including liability insurance and CVIP inspections.

Responsibilities

The Heavy Duty Mechanic Subcontractor will perform diagnostics, maintenance, and repairs on heavy equipment in a mining environment.

  • Complete repairs on CAT, Komatsu, and Hitachi equipment
  • Perform preventative maintenance and servicing
  • Evaluate equipment performance and identify faults
  • Troubleshoot hydraulic, electrical, and mechanical systems
  • Conduct equipment testing to ensure repairs meet manufacturer standards
  • Mobilize equipment for repairs
  • Develop work scopes and schedules for repairs
  • Order necessary repair parts and complete reports
  • Mentor and train apprentices
  • Follow NACG safety procedures and policies

Requirements

The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in heavy equipment maintenance and meet contractor requirements.

  • Minimum 2 years of post-Journeyperson experience
  • Experience with haul trucks, dozers, graders, and excavators
  • Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills
  • Ability to work independently
  • Professional work behavior and commitment to safety
  • Basic computer application knowledge
  • Leadership skills for mentoring apprentices
  • Valid Alberta Journeyperson Equipment Technician (Off-Road) or Interprovincial Red Seal Heavy Duty Mechanic certification
  • Experience with Cat SIS is an asset
  • Prior work experience on safety-sensitive sites preferred
  • Truck requirements: CVIP and Picker Inspection, oxygen/acetylene cabinets meeting OH&S requirements, full set of tools, $5 million liability insurance
  • Valid Class 5 Driver's License
  • Valid CSO Certification
  • Wood Buffalo Wildlife Awareness or equivalent
