Newmont is seeking an Underground Heavy Duty Mechanic to join its team at Brucejack Mine in northern British Columbia. This fly-in/fly-out position is responsible for maintaining and repairing underground mining equipment, ensuring they remain in safe and operational condition. The role requires diagnosing and fixing mechanical issues, performing routine maintenance, and working in compliance with health and safety regulations. The position operates on a 13/2/13 rotation, with camp accommodations provided, including private rooms, meals, and recreational facilities.

Responsibilities

The Underground Heavy Duty Mechanic will be responsible for inspecting, maintaining, and repairing underground mining equipment while ensuring compliance with safety regulations.

  • Inspect and diagnose faults in bulldozers, cranes, graders, drills, haul trucks, and other heavy mining equipment.
  • Use computerized and manual testing equipment to assess repair needs.
  • Adjust, repair, or replace defective parts using hand and power tools.
  • Perform routine maintenance, lubrication, and servicing of equipment.
  • Test repaired equipment to ensure it meets manufacturer specifications.
  • Perform underground equipment repairs, requiring respirator/fit testing.
  • Follow safety protocols and complete site-specific training.
  • Assist with additional duties to support mine operations.

Requirements

Candidates should have mechanical expertise and underground mining experience, along with the following qualifications:

  • Inter-provincial Red Seal Trade qualification as a Heavy-Duty Equipment Mechanic (Technician).
  • Experience maintaining diesel and gasoline mobile and stationary equipment.
  • Previous underground mobile equipment maintenance experience preferred.
  • Valid Class 5 driver's license or higher.
  • WHMIS and TDG certifications are assets.
  • Physically capable of lifting/moving up to 50 lbs and working 12-hour shifts.
  • Ability to pass mandatory medical, drug/alcohol testing, and a criminal background check.
  • Comfortable working in a remote camp environment on a 13/2/13 rotation.
