Haul Truck Operator - Kearl Oil Sands - 14x14 (FIFO) Alberta

The Kearl Heavy Equipment Operator - Haul Truck position supports NACG mining and earthworks operations by safely operating large rigid-frame and articulating haul trucks throughout the active oil sands site. Operators are responsible for material hauling, equipment inspections, hazard assessments, fueling, mine traffic compliance, and safe interaction with loading, dumping, contractor, and client equipment.

• Operate rigid-frame haul trucks ranging from approximately 100-ton to 400-ton capacity in mining and heavy construction earthworks environments.
• Operate 60-ton articulating haul trucks used for material movement and earthworks activities throughout the Kearl site.
• Operate applicable mechanical-drive Caterpillar and electric-drive Komatsu haul truck equipment.
• Transport material safely between loading, hauling, and dumping locations while maintaining production and site safety requirements.
• Complete pre-use inspections before operating assigned haul trucks to verify that equipment is in safe operating condition.
• Identify equipment defects, damage, or mechanical concerns during inspections and operation.
• Report required repairs promptly to maintenance personnel or supervisors.
• Complete field-level risk and hazard assessments before beginning assigned work and whenever work conditions or tasks change.
• Review safe work plans and hazard assessments before job commencement and follow all identified controls and requirements.
• Participate safely in the fueling and servicing of haul trucks and related mining equipment.
• Interact safely with shovels, loaders, excavators, and other equipment used to load haul trucks.
• Interact safely with dumping equipment and personnel at designated material disposal locations.
• Follow all Kearl mine driving rules, traffic procedures, speed restrictions, right-of-way requirements, and operating standards.
• Maintain safe separation and communication while working around contractor equipment, client equipment, and other mobile mine traffic.
• Use all required PPE and other appropriate safety equipment while performing assigned duties.
• Comply with NACG, client, and legislated health and safety policies, operating standards, procedures, and regulations.
• Immediately report incidents, near misses, equipment damage, and unsafe conditions according to site procedures.
• Contribute to safe and efficient mining production while operating large haulage equipment during both day and night shifts

Candidates for the NACG Kearl Haul Truck Operator position must have direct experience operating both large rigid-frame and articulating haul trucks in a mining or heavy construction earthworks environment. The role also requires a valid Class 5 driver's licence, required oil sands safety certifications, strong English communication skills, and the ability to comply with respiratory protection and remote mine site safety requirements.

• Minimum 1 year of experience operating rigid-frame haul trucks ranging from approximately 100-ton to 400-ton capacity.
• Experience operating 60-ton articulating haul trucks.
• Experience with mechanical-drive haul trucks such as Caterpillar equipment and/or electric-drive haul trucks such as Komatsu equipment.
• Minimum 1 year of experience in a mining or heavy construction earthworks environment preferred.
• Valid Class 5 Driver's Licence.
• Acceptable driver's abstract issued within the previous 30 days.
• Proficient in spoken and written English.
• Valid CSO Certification.
• Wood Buffalo Wildlife Awareness or Energy Safety Canada Wildlife Awareness training, including Bear Awareness.
• Ability to safely complete pre-use equipment inspections and recognize maintenance or mechanical concerns.
• Ability to complete field-level risk assessments and follow safe work plans.
• Understanding of mine traffic rules and safe haul truck operating procedures.
• Available to work 12-hour day and night shifts on a 14 x 14 rotational schedule.
• Must be clean shaven where required, or ensure facial hair and jewelry do not interfere with the proper seal and fit of respiratory protective equipment at applicable sites.
• Strong commitment to workplace safety and immediate incident and near-miss reporting.
• High school diploma, GED, and/or post-secondary education considered an asset.

NACG offers Kearl Haul Truck Operators a combined rate of up to $53.66/hour along with a night shift premium, camp accommodation, fly-in/fly-out transportation, union membership, and benefit eligibility. The position follows a 14 x 14 rotation with 12-hour shifts and paid lunch. Kearl currently uses a blended hourly rate structure, and overtime is not provided under the current arrangement.
