Excavator Operator - Kearl Oil Sands - Fly In/Out - Two Week Rotations

North American Construction Group (NACG) is hiring experienced Excavator Operators for work at the Kearl site in Fort McMurray, AB. This position follows a 14-day on, 14-day off rotation, alternating between day and night shifts. Camp accommodations are provided, and flights are available from Edmonton or Calgary, with bus transportation from Fort McMurray to the site. Responsibilities include operating large excavators, performing grading and sloping, and ensuring compliance with safety policies. This is a unionized position under IUOE Local 955.

Responsibilities

The Excavator Operator will be responsible for safely operating heavy equipment to complete assigned work.

  • Operate excavators (870 or larger) to complete various mining tasks
  • Read stakes and accurately place grades
  • Ensure compliance with all safety policies and procedures
  • Use proper personal protective equipment (PPE)
  • Review safe work plans and hazard assessments before beginning tasks
  • Conduct equipment walk-arounds, safety checks, and field-level risk assessments
  • Report necessary repairs to the maintenance team immediately
  • Report all incidents, near misses, or equipment damage immediately

Requirements

The ideal candidate will have experience operating large excavators in a mining environment.

  • Minimum 2-3 years of experience operating excavators (870 or larger)
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in a mining atmosphere (preferred)
  • Experience working in a production environment
  • Ability to excavate, ditch, slope, and grade
  • A safety-first attitude and strong attention to detail
  • Proficiency in English (verbal and written)
  • High school diploma, GED, or post-secondary education (preferred)
  • Valid Class 5 Driver's License with a recent Driver's Abstract
  • Valid CSO and Wildlife Awareness (including Bear Awareness) Certification
